Conservation Stewardship Program Deadline: March 2
Posted on: Feb 11, 2018
The deadline for farmers and ranchers to apply for Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) funds through the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) is March 2nd, 2018. This is not the deadline for participants whose contracts expire at the end of 2018 to renew their contracts for an additional five-year period.
The minimum payment limit of $1,500 per year applies to new contracts in 2018 as well as contracts that renew in 2018.
The list of eligible conservation activities included in the program for 2017 includes a total of 223 separate conservation enhancements, 78 conservation practices, and 35 bundles (suites of enhancements).
By the March 2nd deadline, landowners must submit an initial basic application. If selected, further details will be developed in conjunction with the NRCS. For a step-by-step guidance and enrollment information, landowners can utilize National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition’s (NSAC) recently released CSP 2018 Information Alert.
NRCS will enroll 10 million acres of cropland, pastureland, rangeland, and forestland in CSP through the 2018 sign-up period. The 2018 CSP sign-up is the final enrollment opportunity under the 2014 Farm Bill, which expires this year.
