Windbreaks in Wyoming

In a news release published February 12, 2009 from the USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service titled "Windbreaks Important for Livestock Protection" they briefly talk about the benefits to livestock when implementing windbreaks consisting of trees. "Windbreaks consisting of trees and shrubs reduce wind speed. The protected area is generally 10 to 12 times the height of the windbreak on the leeward side. Windbreaks also provide other benefits like snow control, wildlife habitat, screen unsightly areas, dust or odor control, soil erosion control or energy conservation." Wyoming's Unemployment Rate--Lowest in the Nation

Wyoming has the lowest unemployment rate in the nation, this according to the latest federal figures. This sounds great and looks great in print, however it may be misleading and Wyoming isn't necessary on the greener side of the grass.

In an article by Ben Neary of The Associate Press he interviews Jim Robinson, senior economist with the Wyoming Department of Administration and Information. In this article Jim Robinson states "I think that some of this information might even be misleading," Robinson said of the federal figures. "We've been looking at some of the jobless claims information we've been getting from the last few months, which are telling us that claims are up." He continues to say "My take on it is that the data may be lagging in terms of what may be going on in the state right now, in terms of employment." Ben Neary also interviews Marion Loomis, executive director of the Wyoming Mining Association.

Water Rights

Water rights are simply the legal right to use water. The land you purchase or own, may or may not have water rights attached to it. In the west there are primarily three systems of water law: 1) Riparian, 2) Prior Appropriation, and 3) Hybrid. The system used in each state varies and as a result, so does the actual usage included in water rights. As a landowner it is important to understand what water rights, if any, transfer in ownership and what those rights include. For more information on water rights, please see the following links:
